Polyester film capacitor polarity are made with a dielectric of the synthetic fluoropolymer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a hydrophobic solid fluorocarbon. The smallest available film thickness for PTFE films is 5.5 μm, approximately twice the thickness of polypropylene films. The film thickness on the surface is not constant so Teflon films are difficult to produce. The number of manufacturers of PTFE film capacitors is limited.

The least obtainable film thickness for PTFE films, however, is 5.5 m, or almost twice as thick as polypropylene films.
